Robin Shenitsky, 62, of Pawling, was killed around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, during the crash on Route 55 in the Town of Pawling near Highland Drive, said Dutchess County Sheriff Capt. John Watterson.

Critically injured was Jorge Rivera, 44, of Poughkeepsie, he added.

According to Watterson, a preliminary investigation found that Rivera, who was driving a 2010 Jeep westbound, was struck head-on by Shenitsky, driving a 2017 Honda Ridgeline.

Shenitsky was pronounced dead at the scene, and Rivera was transported via ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"The investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, and at this time the primary factor appears to be a failure to keep right on the part of Mrs. Shenitsky," Watterson said.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the Town of Pawling Fire Department, and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner.

At this time, no charges have been filed.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed all or part of the crash, to contact Deputy Wilber or Deputy LeMere at 845-486-3800.

The Sheriff’s Office can also be contacted via the tipline at 845-605-CLUE (2583) or dcsotips@gmail.com, and all information will be kept confidential.
